Nova Scotia had a new leader on this date in 1997 with the swearing-in of Russell MacLellan as the province’s 24A lawyer by trade, MacLellan had served almost 20 years as a MP before entering provincial politics. He did so with his election to the Legislature in 1997. His time, however, in the Premier’s office was short as he served only two-years before his government was defeated on a confidence motion. MacLellan and his Grits were to lose the ensuing election.
