Lester Pearson and his Liberals were victorious on this date in 1963, defeating John Diefenbaker and his Tories. in that year, 133 seats were need to government with a majority. Pearson’s Liberals won 128 seats, a gain of 29, while Diefenbaker’s PC’s took 116 seats, 21 less than they had in the previous election.
