It is a big anniversary day in the life and career of John Horgan. Five-years-ago today he took office as BC’s 36Horgan came to office in the aftermath of a minority victory by Liberal Premier Christy Clark but was able to defeat her and her government in the BC Legislature thanks to an agreement Horgan made with the province’s Green Party. Horgan was rewarded with a majority mandate three years later, in 2020.

After experiencing cancer while in office, Premier Horgan has since announced his political retirement plans. I know that people of all party views will join me in sending our best wishes to Premier Horgan and his family as he prepares to hand over power to a successor. Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist. He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
