Here's some advice for attending Comic-Con in 2022
“No matter how dedicated you are to documenting Comic-Con, it’s just not worth it to lug a laptop in your bag or carry that extra camera you might use. You will be walking a lot and any item starts to weigh you down. It’s best to leave a lot of your digital equipment at a hotel room, or with a friend, and upload everything when you get home. One thing you should have with you though: A portable power pack for your cell phone.
“Put the amount you’ve budgeted on a prepaid or limited card and take a little out in cash for Artist Alley. This serves two purposes. First, it helps you stick to your budget by imposing extra steps before big purchases . Second, you won’t have to worry about losing your wallet, getting pickpocketed or having your card skimmed.”“The last thing you want is for your phone to die part way through the day, especially when there are so many cool things to take pictures and video of.
“San Diego Comic Con takes place at the height of summer — prime beach weather and convention weather in San Diego. With limited indoor spaces and long lines for events, water is hard to come by. Drinking water not only keeps you hydrated and staves of heat stroke, it also helps keep your muscles from tightening up, making it easier to do lines, walking and standing the next day.
“Standing in line is inevitable, but make sure you’re in the right line. Misinformation abounds at Comic-Con. All it takes is one volunteer or attendee giving out the wrong direction to have people wasting hours in a line that’s for something else. Confirm the line destination with the people in front of you and if there’s another nearby line, ask them what they’re waiting for. You’ll be glad you did.
“If you’ve got bad FOMO like I do, accept that you were never going to see everything. Comic-Con caters to so many interests that it’s impossible for any one person to check off all their fandom boxes. Don’t fret about the size of the ocean, just relish that you’re able to swim in it.”
