Magnitude 7.1 Earthquake Kills at Least 53 in Tibet, Triggers AftershocksA powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck the Tibetan region of China on Tuesday, leaving at least 53 people dead and many trapped under debris. The quake, which was relatively shallow at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), caused widespread damage in several villages, with around 1,000 houses reported damaged and 62 people injured. Dozens of aftershocks followed the initial quake, prompting the closure of the Mount Everest scenic area on the Chinese side. Rescue efforts are underway with over 1,500 fire and rescue workers and 200 soldiers deployed to search for survivors. Chinese leader Xi Jinping called for all-out efforts to rescue people and minimize casualties.
