There's no doubt that a Burton-directed dinosaur flick would be a shlocky B-movie-influenced masterpiece, and he almost directed two of them.

Tim Burton has a lot of exciting-sounding unrealized projects that he almost directed behind him, and not one, but two of them, are dinosaur movies. The celebrated filmmaker is known for his gothic style and dark humor, which was established with 1988's Beetlejuice, and while it had been a while since he made such a movie, his Netflix series Wednesday marks his long-awaited comeback.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The most notorious Burton project stuck in development hell is the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, and three decades later, there are still frequent updates and hope among the fanbase. But among Tim Burton's countless unrealized projects, two of them are dinosaur movies, one of which went on to be directed by a different filmmaker and changed the whole Hollywood landscape forever.

Tim Burton Almost Directed Jurassic Park As soon as Michael Crichton's original Jurassic Park novel was released, it immediately had a huge impact in Hollywood. Steven Spielberg famously directed the movie, which remains one of the most visually stunning action-adventure movies ever made, as it somehow seamlessly blends practical and visual effects better than most movies released today.

In 1990, though Universal acquired the rights, Warner Bros. was trying to acquire them too with the intention of having Tim Burton direct it, as the studio and director had a close working relationship at the time. There's no doubt that Burton's version of Jurassic Park would have looked a lot different from what was actually released. Instead of the schmaltzy adventure with kids in main roles, Burton's adaptation would likely have been way darker and much bloodier.

Tim Burton Also Almost Directed Dinosaurs Attack! Five years after Burton came close to helming Jurassic Park, the filmmaker was approached to direct a movie adaptation of Dinosaurs Attack!, which was originally a trading card series. Burton briefly worked on the project with a screenplay from Jonathan Gems, who went on to write another Burton movie, 1996's Mars Attacks! Coincidentally, the B-movie-influenced sci-fi flick is based on a card series too.
