A TikTok star is facing three misdemeanor charges for hitting a golf ball into the Grand Canyon and throwing her club after it.
Katie Sigmond, 20, uploaded the video of her playing in the National Park on Oct. 26 to her nearly 7 million followers on the platform. While the post has since been removed from her account, the very next day, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement identified, located, and contacted Sigmond. Now, she is facing Class B misdemeanors of littering, creating a hazardous condition, and throwing objects over the canyon rim, according to park spokeswoman Joelle Baird.
"Do we really need to say, ‘don’t hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon?’" the official Grand Canyon Facebook page posted after identifying Sigmond."Throwing objects over the rim of the canyon is not only illegal but can also endanger hikers and wildlife who may be below."Sigmond is known for her various pranks, including more golf videos. She is not a professional golfer but claims she began"taking it seriously" within the last few months.
The combined misdemeanors are"unlikely" to lead to jail time but could result in fines up to $1,000 each, according to Baird. These fines would be a drop in the bucket, as Sigmond claims she's made"millions" on OnlyFans after making her first million dollars after five months on the platform.Sigmond expressed regret Wednesday for a previous prank in which she went bowling with a pumpkin.
