Dave Feschuk: Tiger Woods spills Augusta National secrets handed down from the masters
in the lead-up to a major, was an impenetrable mute. His intimidating presence spoke loudly, and he was never interested in saying much else.
But time has mellowed the 15-time major winner. And on Tuesday, Woods spoke of his growing willingness to share what he calls his “data bank” of golf knowledge, specifically during awhere the wisdom of the ages tends to inform champions. For Woods, it’s a matter of giving back what he once received from the green jacket winners who came before him, and who willingly shared their secrets.
Woods spoke of playing with Fred Couples and Raymond Floyd — who won the Masters in 1992 and 1976, respectively — in his first appearance at the tournament, as an amateur in 1995. He raved about learning from Seve Ballesteros and José Maria Olazábal, both of whom won the Masters twice; and of playing the par-3 contest with“That’s what this tournament allows us to do, is pass on knowledge and gain knowledge from the past and apply it,” Woods said.
