A video from backstage at the award show showedHaddish is seen spotting the singer from across the room, and making a beeline to catch up with her before she leaves the area. The comedian repeatedly shouts "Shakira, Shakira" to try to get her attention with her unmistakeable voice — and eventually inserts herself into a few photos with the Colombian icon.
Haddish presented the Best Afrobeats category at the ceremony. The award went to Rema and Selena Gomez for their song "Calm Down."Meanwhile, Shakira received the Video Vanguard award midway through the ceremony. Her "Hips Don't Lie" collaborator presented her with the award after she performed an extensive medley of some of her biggest hits, including "She Wolf," "TQG," and "Whenever, Wherever."
