Thunderwolves bounced back with big win over Marauders
THUNDER BAY – Michael Okafor scored 24 points, one of six Lakehead players to hit double digits on Saturday night, to lead the Thunderwolves men’s basketball team back into the win column.
The No. 8 Wolves, who lost to McMaster on Friday night, bounced back, though it took them a little while to get going. A night after giving up 30 points in the opening quarter, the Thunderwolves spotted the Marauders a 27-21 lead after one, but then put up 37 points in the second quarter to take the lead for good.
Tyler Sagl hit a three-pointer with 1:44 go in the first half to give the T-Wolves a 51-48 lead and then hit another 21 seconds later to up the lead to six. A third from distance with four seconds to go in the half gave LU a 58-53 lead.A 9-3 run boosted Lakehead’s lead to 11 and Sagl hit a jumper at the end of the third to make it 79-66 Lakehead after 30 minutes.
The Thunderwolves outscored the Marauders 28-19 in the fourth, to win 107-85, guard Laoui Msambya putting up 12 points, finishing with 16 on the night. Dylan Morrison , Nathan Bilamu and Eric Gonzalez also had double digit points.Lakehead travels to Western and Windsor next weekend to wrap up the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule.
