Hurricane Lee will kick up high surf and rip currents along the Jersey Shore later this week, though no direct impacts to New Jersey are likely.

There are no rip current warnings on Monday morning, but they are likely to be issued in the coming days as Hurricane Lee churns north through the Atlantic Ocean hundreds of miles off the Jersey Shore.

As of 5 a.m. Monday, the Category 3 storm was 340 mile north of the Northern Leeward Islands inching west northwest at 7 mph. Lee is packing maximum winds of 120 miles per hour and is expected to curve north on. Wednesday. Hurricane Lee is expected to be well east of New Jersey as a category 3 storm on Saturday, far enough off shore that tropical force winds won’t reach the state, according to theThough it’s not completely out of the question the track of Lee could shift to the west slightly, the weather service in Mount Holly also says Lee won’t approach New Jersey.

Hurricane Lee isn't expected to impact New Jersey directly but will bring rough surf and a high risk of rip currents to the Jersey Shore later this week.“It still looks like there will be no direct impacts to our area, however a prolonged period of larger swells/waves and dangerous rip currents are expected,” the National Weather Service said in its Monday morning forecast discussion.

Tuesday is shaping up to be dry and sunny before potentially more rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday ahead of a dry, slightly cooler back half of the week.
