Thunder could spark travel chaos as school holidays kick off – before heatwave next week
THUNDERSTORMS and floods are set to batter parts of the UK today in a miserable start to the school holidays.
But the outlook is not so dreary for the rest of the country, with forecasters predicting a mini heatwave next week that could see highs of 34C.If temperatures stay high in the same spots for three consecutive days, the Met Office deems it a heatwave.Saturday will be a mix of sunshine and showers, with a band of rain pushing from west to east over the course of the day.Heavy showers and thunderstorms will pound Scotland and Northern Ireland, potentially sparking localised flooding.
“There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus,” a spokesman said.
