The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation expects this year's 50/50 lottery to surpass $4 million, with proceeds going towards hospital renovations. The ticket sales have already exceeded $33 million, setting a new record.

Glenn Craig , president and CEO of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, said that giving a Thunder Bay 50/50 lottery ticket for Christmas is a universal gift, with the potential to win a $2.5 million cheque. The lottery, expected to launch on Friday, saw a record $33 million in ticket sales this year, surpassing last year's total of $26.4 million. Last year's Christmas draw offered a grand prize of $3.9 million.

Craig predicts that this year's draw will top $4 million, given the current trend. The winning amount is tax-free and paid in a lump sum. Proceeds from the November and December draws will be allocated for the renovation of the triage area at the hospital, a project anticipated to commence in the new year. Dr. Kyle Lansdell, head of emergency and trauma services, praised the impact of the lottery, emphasizing its importance for improving patient care
