Wyndham Lathem had surrendered to federal marshals in Oakland eight days after an anonymous call led police to the body in his apartment.

A former professor convicted of the gruesome murder of his boyfriend was sentenced Tuesday in Chicago to 53 years in prison.in August 2017, eight days after an anonymous call led police to the body of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau in his Chicago apartment.Warren, a British national, later made a deal to plead guilty to murder and testify that Lathem had killed the 26-year-old victim, who was stabbed more than 70 times and nearly decapitated.

In July 2017, Lathem paid for Warren to fly to Chicago, and the two reportedly came up with a plan to slay victims of Lathem’s choosing. Both men then planned to then kill each other simultaneously, investigators said. Prosecutors say that while a fugitive Lathem sent a video to his mother in which he said: “I killed him, I did do it, it wasn’t an accident but it was a mistake.”
