Three things you need to know about the Blue Jays’ 8-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins at Rogers Centre on Sunday:

The bright sky wreaked havoc with the Jays in the first inning, setting the tone for the rubber match of the series. After two quick singles, Jorge Polanco lifted a high fly ball to right field that Teoscar Hernandez got under and missed, losing the ball in the white clouds above Rogers Centre at the last second. The two-base error led to a three-run inning for the Twins.George Springer set a franchise record when he homered off Minnesota’s Devin Smeltzer in the bottom of the first.

It was also Springer’s 50th career leadoff homer, fourth on the all-time list. Former Jay Rickey Henderson , Alfonso Soriano and Craig Biggio are the top three.Despite the adventurous first inning, which also included Vladimir Guerrero Jr. losing a foul pop-up in the high sky, the Jays made a trio of tremendous defensive plays in Sunday’s loss.

Matt Chapman dove to his left in the fifth inning and adjusted mid-dive for a bad hop on Jose Miranda’s ground ball. Springer made a phenomenal catch at the wall in centre on a Gary Sanchez drive in the sixth and doubled off Nick Gordon when Guerrero, screaming for a throw, beat Gordon to second base. And reliever Adam Cimber went way up in the seventh, hauling in a wild throw from Guerrero and tumbling into first base to retire Giovanny Urshela.
