Three men have been sentenced for crimes ranging from drug sales to robbery, court records show.

SAN JOSE — Federal judges in the Bay Area have sentenced three men in connection with the massive 2021 series of indictments targeting a Northern California prison gang and it “regiment” of subsets in the South Bay, court records show.

Andrew “Indo” Anchondo, 24, Eliseo “Snow” Martinez, 28; and Nicholas “Prime Time” Mendez, 46, were all indicted on racketeering charges in August 2021. The indictment alleged that the three — along with six co-defendants — were part of a “Santa Clara County Regiment of the Norteño gang, which operated at the direction of the Nuestra Familia, a Northern California-based prison gang whose leaders were charged in a separate but related prosecution.

On July 28, Mende — who prosecutors described as a low-level drug dealer with “a serious and longstanding drug addiction” — was given the harshest sentence of the three, a 54-month federal prison term for selling methamphetamine to benefit the Norteños. Martinez, who admitted to selling a half-pound of methamphetamine in a plea deal, was sentenced in June to 20 months.

At a late June court hearing, Anchondo, who admitted to robbing a San Jose Arco gas station at gunpoint in 2017 and selling 2.9 grams of methamphetamine, was given 41 months in federal prison. His attorney wrote in court records that he is “honestly tired” of being in a gang and was essentially brought into the lifestyle by his family, starting at a young age.

The judgments are among the first in the federal and state investigation targeting both gangs, which led to indictments against dozens of alleged Nuestra Familia members and associates. A larger case charging the gang’s alleged leaders with crimes ranging from drug trafficking to murder conspiracies is still in its early stages; defense attorneys and prosecutors are currently debating the defendants’ pretrial release conditions as well as the schedule for discovery, court records show.
