On Tuesday, voters will have their pick in a contested Republican primary to lead Perry County – a place where the political stakes are often far different than they are just a few miles south.
Perry County is led by a three-member board of commissioners, just like most others. But in a county that still struggles with basic infrastructure issues – such as internet access, and even electricity – the nature of the job is often far different than in more populous and affluent places like Cumberland and Dauphin.
Three men are vying for two Republican nominations – current Commissioner Brian Allen along with Bill Lyons and Frank Campbell. The county’s other Republican commissioner, Gary Eby, resigned last year due to health problems, and interim commissioner Larry Reisinger is not seeking a full term.
