Toronto firefighters said they sent a hazardous materials team to an LA Fitness at 4861 Yonge St. just before 5:30 p.m.

There, firefighters said at least nine people evacuated a pool, reporting runny eyes and a sore throat.

A man and two women were taken to hospital for serious non-life-threatening injuries, Toronto paramedics said, and two children were taken to hospital with minor injuries.He added firefighters isolated the area and the pool is being ventilated.Chlorine is regularly used to sanitize swimming pools, . The public health agency’s website adds swimming pool water that is not sanitized can give people illness, ear and stomach infections and skin rashes.. The centre’s website states contact with too much chlorine can cause burns or frostbite.

Firefighters said they have contacted Technical Standards and Safety Authority and the Ontario Ministry of Labour.
