A petition demanding Ottawa do more to protect Canada’s health care system from privatization has received more than 33,600 signatures. “It’s like death by a thousand cuts,' says NDP MP Lindsay Mathyssen, who sponsored the petition.

A petition demanding Ottawa do more to protect Canada’s health care system from privatization illustrates people’s fears that the public service is being threatened by the recent crisis, said an NDP MP.that outlined seven steps the federal government could take to further protect the health care system.

The petition comes as Canadians struggle to get adequate care following reports of gridlocked hospitals, labour shortages and severe burnout in frontline staff like nurses.
