Many new and existing claimants could be missing out

Thousands of Universal Credit claimants can get an extra £624 from the DWP each month. It is believed many new and existing claimants could be missing out.

Lancashire Live reports that the financial support would come through Personal Independence Payments . It comes as a new report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation found that families on low incomes are enduring a "year of financial fear" and making grim choices such as falling behind on bills, going without essentials or taking on expensive debt.

An estimated 500,000 more people will be eligible this year as rules change. The latest PIP data shows that at the end of April there were three million people across the UK claiming PIP support with just over one in three claimants receiving the highest level of award. What is PIP? It isn’t means-tested either, so it doesn’t matter what your income is, how much you have in savings, or whether you're currently employed. The biggest misconception about PIP is that the DWP will only award the benefit to people with outwardly visible physical, long-term health conditions or disabilities.
