Health Canada is recalling Generac and DR brand portable generators following dozens of reports of finger amputations in the U.S.

The agency says there have been 37 reports of injuries, including 24 reports of finger amputation and five of crush injuries by American users of the affected portable generators. The recalled products by Wisonsin manufacturer Generac Power Systems are the 6500 watt and 8000 watt models of gasoline-powered portable generators. The affected units have two wheels and a U-shaped flip-up handle.

The issue is that the folding handle on the side of the machine can crush the user’s fingers if the locking pin is not properly inserted when moving the generator,The company sold 4,574 units of the affected product in Canada, and 321,160 units in the U.S. between June 2013 to June 2021.Here are the specific unit types and model numbers of affected products.
