The festivities of Fur Rondy may be in the rearview mirror, but there’s still plenty happening in Anchorage this weekend. “Missing,” a major production by Anchorage Opera, tells the stories of missing and murdered Indigenous women. For fans of a different type of live music, pop trio Echosmith will take the stage, and if you’re looking for laughs, comedy writers from “The Daily Show” will stop in Anchorage as part of their national tour. Here’s a look at what’s happening this weekend.: 7 p.m.
This production by Anchorage Community Theatre tells the amazing story of Jerrie Cobb, the first American woman to test for space flight. Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for seniors, military and students; and $15 for children under 12. The show runs through March 26 with weekly Thursday performances as well.: 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Discovery Theatre, 621 W. Sixth Ave.
The comedic masterminds behind the longest-running show on Comedy Central, Matt Koff, Lisa Curry, Joe Opio and Randall Otis are taking their jokes from the TV to the road. Local comedian Mike Lajoie hosts the performances. Tickets start at $44 and $35.25 for 18 and under.This cantata by Carl Orff is based on two dozen medieval poems. The composition’s themes include the return of spring and a number of perceived immoralities like drinking, gluttony and lust.
