Seaweed is posing major issues along the Atlantic coast— and he's found a sustainable way to address it.

Dujon is the founder of Algas, a company that harvests this seaweed, called Sargassum, and turns it into plant fertilizer for commercial farming.Over the past decade, rising sea temperatures and fertilizer runoff have prompted the unprecedented seaweed bloom that’s engulfed the coastlines of 22 nations in the Caribbean.

With Algas, Dujon harvests the seaweed directly from the ocean and processes more than 1,000,000 pounds of the seaweed into a crop fertilizer by extracting “all the good stuff,” like amino acids, cytokines and beneficial compounds. And, the runoff is not foreign to the ocean, hopefully contributing to smaller amounts of seaweed bloom in later years.
