It\u0027s a little too quiet even for golf, at this year\u0027s U.S. Open in Los Angeles which seems to have an atmosphere problem
To say this U.S. Open is a little different is an understatement. The golf has been great — some would argue too great — and the leaderboard heading into Sunday’s final round is stacked. Fowler and Clark are tied at the top at 10-under, with one man trying to remake his name and the other trying to make his. A shot back of that duo is Rory McIlroy at nine-under, and he offers a dealer’s choice of compelling storylines. Next in line is world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at seven-under.
After waiting over a century to get inside this incredibly private golf club tucked in one of the ritziest neighbourhoods in America, it can’t help but feel like people are still being kept out. The one unavoidable issue is that the rugged terrain and the course’s famed barranca creates natural winding hazards all over the place that make it hard to move a large number of people around the property.
