. Viewers are still unsure how it even came to be or if it's actually an alternate universe within the show. But one fan took it one step further and might have shown what the Upside Down is and why it has a special connection to Will.
They continue to point out that Will was the only one who was able to survive the Upside Down, except for El who was likely protected by her powers. They continue to mention that Will has been bullied throughout the seasons and this is probably the reason why the monsters have come out and tried to attack Hawkins.
