Liz Hedger, a Granville native, sheltered-in-place during Michigan State's shooting Monday night.

after shots were reported at Berkey Hall on the north side of campus, where Hedger had parked her car an hour before, and later at the MSU Union.

Hedger and her suitemates bunkered themselves against a wall behind a desk, sitting for two-and-a-half hours listening to the scanner. “There’s no perfect place to be hiding during an active shooter situation,” Hedger said. “There’s no great ‘hiding location’ that makes you feel 100% secure. You feel scared regardless.”

“I saw a guy running outside, and he was probably trying to run to get to his dorm,” Hedger said. “But I then understood why we were getting so many calls because had this been an hour earlier I might have called 911 to report it. Then you have to think and think rationally and be like, ‘OK, he’s probably running to his dorm because he’s afraid. And I want to call the cops on him because I’m afraid.
