Playing football in the American, small-college National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics is also an option. SFU played there prior to moving to Canada West. SFU started football in 1965, played in the NAIA from 1968-2001 and then was Canada West from 2002-09 before moving to NCAA Div. II.

The school announced on April 21 that it was going to hire an adviser. Bailey says that the program needs to be up and running to give him something to assess and he has said that the Red Leafs could put together an exhibition schedule this season, playing U Sports teams during their bye weeks. Time would be running out quickly on getting those games scheduled, though.

Stephens ruled that Peter Gall, who was the lawyer for the SFU players, failed to show that shutting down the program with limited notice breached agreements with players.Article content
