Quote of the day:
, a nonprofit that produces stories about everyday heroes to inspire the hero in us all. Some of the people featured include a 12-year-old animal rights activist and a UCLA lecturer who, at age 51, gave up his house for free to a homeless woman and her four kids for a year. His related organization,
, which Lam co-founded with Kala Shah, works with school children to inspire them to be agents of change.,” in partnership with the AARP, about three caregiving heroes in the Asian-American community. Lam isn’t a stranger to caregiving. He says his first big “aha” moment in discovering his life purpose came when he was in his 20s and working his first TV reporting gig in Wisconsin. He found out his father had stomach cancer and had been given six months to live.
Shortly thereafter, Lam’s aunt and both grandmothers passed away. “Losing four family members within one year made me value time and connections with people differently. I started to learn more about spirituality and connected to my higher self and purpose,” Lam said. That’s when he felt inspired to found a non-profit and later get into podcasting, teaching, and motivational speaking.
In terms of discovering his passion, Lam explained that he has always followed his intuition."It’s the GPS we’re given as children but are taught to stray from throughout our lives. It’s there to guide you and will appear in stomach aches, illnesses and anxiety if you’re going down the wrong path. When you pay attention, it will guide you to your purpose.
Everything I do is connected to what I believe I was brought here to do – to inspire people to use their power to be better and do better for themselves and others. As a young person, Lam’s parents pushed him to follow the perceived “safe” career path: “Doctor, lawyer, engineer.” That was their “American dream” for him. His American dream? To become the first ever Asian male inspirational talk show host.
