Hundreds of Algoma University students earned their degrees and certificates as part of the school’s 2023 convocation at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion on Saturday
Algoma U student and now graduate Mohamed Issaoui was looking for a change of scenery when he began his post-secondary education in Toronto several years ago.Originally from Tunisia , Issaoui eventually made the decision to move to Sault Ste. Marie and study computer science at Algoma University.
Four years after moving to northern Ontario by himself, Issaoui found himself surrounded by many close friends during the 2023 convocation at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion when he graduated with honours on Saturday. With intentions to achieve a master’s and PhD in biomedical engineering, Issaoui says having the opportunity to study his undergrad in the Sault is an experience he’ll never forget.
“This city changed me so much,” he says. “The people, the university itself – I’m really happy to have studied here. I’ve met so many good people.” Issaoui walked into the convocation alongside hundreds of other graduates led by drummers and pipers with the 49th Field Regiment.Hundreds of proud families looked on as Algoma University professors, alumni, and dignitaries congratulated this year’s graduates and handed out the degrees and certificates.
