A group of teens from Oakville, Ontario, are selling solar eclipse glasses to raise money for endangered monarch butterflies.
Teens from Oakville, Ontario, started the Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Project to sell safety glasses for viewing the solar eclipse on April 8.
From left, Taylor, Ellen, Emilie, Paige and Maggie teamed up to spread awareness about endangered monarch butterflies. The last time a partial solar eclipse crossed through her town, Taylor Denton said she had a hard time finding glasses that were safe for looking at the sun.This time, the 17-year-old teamed up with four friends to make sure everyone can get glasses that are safe and recyclable.“It started off as a joke.
She’s a naturalist and conservation manager at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory in Cambridge, Ontario. Tofflemire said she hopes the money raised by the Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Project will go toward creating more natural habitats for monarch butterflies.
