On top of the ancient mosaics are layers of paintings."You can see how the medieval past interacts with the early modern period, with the 19th century, with the contemporary period just by walking into the Cathedral of Saint Sophia," Pevny explained.When this church was first constructed in 1108, it was the only one in Kyiv with golden domes.
