as well as a few rising stars in the literary world. This year, one of the books nominated has already picked up another of the literary world's most lauded accolades: the Booker Prize. The six books were selected by a panel of five judges chaired by Martha Lane Fox, entrepreneur and chancellor of the Open University. They include Scarlett Curtis, writer and activist, Melanie Eusebe, co-founder of the Black British Business Awards, Viv Groskop, author and comedian, and Paula Hawkins, international bestselling author.
Speaking about their choices and the importance of good books right now, Lane Fox said: 'We are all living in challenging, sad and complex times so incredible stories provide hope, a moment of escape and a point of connection now more than ever. Choosing the shortlist was tough – we went slowly and carefully and passions ran high – just as you would want in such a process. But we are all so proud of these books – all readers will find solace if they pick one up.
The 25th winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction will be announced on Wednesday 9th September, which gives us plenty of time to curl up with the shortlist and choose our own favourite.
