The Hawks and Nets completed a trade yesterday, and surprisingly, the loser of the trade was a team not even involved: The New York Knicks.

In short: The Nets gave up picks to have a legitimate shot at signing stars this summer. It's a decent gamble. The Nets, pending what they do with D'Angelo Russell and his cap hold of $21 million, could find themselves in a situation where they have enough cap space to sign two superstars, one of whom being Kyrie Irving, who is allegedly interested in joining the playoff team.
While the Knicks have a few intriguing prospects on the team, chief among them being Mitchell Robinson, none of them compare favourably to Brooklyn's Caris LeVert, who could become a star in his own right by next season. New York's roster after the NBA season changes to 2019/2020 will, so far officially, consist of just Robinson, Frank Ntilikina, Dennis Smith Jr, and Kevin Knox.
But those advantages pale in comparison to the stability of Brooklyn's front office, spearheaded by GM Sean Marks, as well as the talent already on the roster, and the synergy that exists between coaching staff and front office. The Nets embrace analytics and insights, and have spent years regaining their footing after the infamous 2013 trade with the Boston Celtics body-slammed them to the ground for half a decade.
