Super acting highlights SpeakEasy Theatre production of Gross Misconduct

Tickets & Info: $29 at gatewaytheatre.com

The play is staged in the round in the Gateway Studio where Markian Tarasiuk’s stark white set sits in the glare of Jillian White’s harsh lighting. Parallel benches serve as beds in the cell Deke has to himself until new cellmate Corey arrives. Alternating with these increasingly violent scenes, young Abigail tells of her flirtations with a guy she calls “my crush” as she circles the prison set. At first the contrast with the prison world couldn’t be stronger. We don’t know her connection, if any, with the men in there, and her giddy excitement starts to feel annoying.
