The Astros evened the World Series at two games apiece and will hand the ball to Gerrit Cole in Game 5. Houston hasn’t lost two straight games started by Cole since April.
By Jared Diamond Oct. 27, 2019 7:00 am ET WASHINGTON—Carlos Correa knew with complete certainty that Alex Bregman would soon break out of his postseason slump in the sixth inning of Game 3 of the World Series on Friday. Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez decided to walk Michael Brantley intentionally to load the bases ahead of Bregman, the star Houston Astros third baseman considered a favorite to earn MVP honors. Correa couldn’t believe Martinez would disrespect Bregman in that way.
“When you do that to A-Bregs, he’s going to come back the next day and he’s going to be A-Breg,” Correa said. “I was pretty fired up,” said Bregman, who hit 41 home runs and knocked in 112 runs in the regular season. “We don’t really see Bregman struggle too often, so when he does for three games it feels like he’s in an 0-for-50 slump,” outfielder Josh Reddick said.
