When Paula Kerger took over as chief executive of PBS in 2006, “Downton Abbey” hadn’t yet made its debut and Charlie Rose and Tavis Smiley were mainstays. Netflix hadn’t yet moved into streaming and Apple had just begun selling TV episodes via iTunes.
Thirteen years later, Ms. Kerger isn’t just the longest-serving chief in Public Broadcasting Service history. She is one of the longest-surviving leaders in television, which has gone through much upheaval during her tenure.
