Allegedly, they were using some unsavory tactics during the first round of Emmy voting
Looks like we have a case of actors behaving badly on our hands. The Television Academy just had to disqualify members of its Performers Peer Group from voting in the upcoming Emmy season. Why? It appears that some of the actors were either advocating for or participating in block voting—meaning, the voters in question discussed ahead of time what their votes would be in at least one category, with the intention of all voting for the same nominee in order to influence the outcome of the awards.
“As such,” the memo adds, “this activity may be grounds for a member to be disqualified from participation.” The memo states that the members found to have discussed or participated in block voting have, therefore, been disqualified from voting this year. “In addition, their conduct may be referred to the Conduct Review Committee for further disciplinary action.” That could be where expulsion comes in.
“The integrity of the Emmy competition is of paramount importance to the Television Academy,” the memo concludes. “Any suggestions of voting impropriety, whether implied or acted upon, are taken very seriously and will not be tolerated. The Academy will continue to investigate this matter, and will take appropriate action should other members be implicated.”
