San Antonio Spurs defeated the Houston Rockets 118-109.Keldon Johnson exploded for 32 points, Tre Jones went for a career-best 24 and the Spurs broke the second-longest slump in club history with a 118-109 victory over Houston on Thursday at the AT&T Center.
After muddling to a 54-51 deficit at half — made possible by Green’s one-legged, buzzer-beating 3-pointer — the Spurs erupted in the second half. Added to that, leading scorer Devin Vassell missed the game after an existing knee issue flared up late in Sunday’s loss to Phoenix. It marked Johnson’s best shooting night of the season, and only the fourth time he converted at least half his shots since October.
His aggressiveness set the tone early for the Spurs. When he wasn’t going behind his back to free himself for a straight-line layup, he was finding others for easy baskets.Eric Gordon made a floater to put the Rockets ahead 35-33.
