It’s no surprise when a wedding in the Marvel Universe gets rudely interrupted , so it’s only fitting that superhero super-fans Victoria Stacey and Rowan Francois’ own attempts at marriage were foiled twice by one supervillain: COVID. “We were set to get married in September 2020, but life, of course, had other plans,” Stacey says. “We then tried for June 2021, but, again, it didn’t work out. Finally, we did the thing June 25, 2022.
Stacey, who now works as a marketing strategist at a digital agency, was initially attracted to Francois’ smile, and he to her style. “I also loved her laugh,” he says. His superpower? Cracking Stacey up. On their first official date, at Sweet Dreams Teashop, Francois said something so hilarious that Stacey accidentally blurted out that she loved him.
“We went for a hike up Blue Mountain and one of our friends – unknowingly – pointed out that there was something in Locke’s pocket,” Stacey says. It was a photograph of Locke surrounded bythe couple’s favourite things, including comic books, a video game controller, and a bottle of whiskey, with a note reading, “Will you marry my daddy?”top moments,” Francois remembers.
Francois and his superhero team wore Marvel bow ties, crafted by a friend’s business, Oak & Elm Handmade, and each boutonnière featured a different Marvel character. Stacey and Francois later donned custom shoes by Original Genes: his called out to Marvel’s Midnight Sons team and the manga series “Chainsaw Man,” while hers were covered in food and floral references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Harry Potter.
