Bernie Sanders' education plan has 5 really good ideas, one not-so-great idea, and one missed opportunity

Nothing has done more damage to teachers’ work in the classroom than education policy’s decades of obsession with high stakes testing. The use of standardized test scores to measure students, teachers and schools is ineffective and unhealthy, and has had a toxic effect on schools across this country. It has narrowed curricula, shrunken our concept of what education should mean, and wasted huge amounts of time and money.

Like much of the Sanders plan, it would requirewhole year educating students, not preparing them for a standardized test that takes over the whole school every spring” would be a worthwhile pledge indeed.There's much to discuss about education policy in the Sanders plan, and that in itself is a great new thing in a Presidential election. Let's hope that other Democrats catch on.
