San Francisco's Coit Tower, a famed tourist attraction, has had three residents over the past 90 years.
Not many visitors make it to Coit Tower’s second floor, and even fewer notice the nondescript door across from the elevator.

When benefactor Lillie Hitchcock Coit died in 1929, she left around $125,000 to the city with the intent that her gift “be expended in an appropriate manner for the purpose of adding to the beauty of the city which I have always loved.
