“Coolly” is the most commonly misspelled word in the U.S., but it doesn't top the list in Alabama.
In a world of acronyms – LOL, BRB, ASAP – correct spelling has too often become a thing of the past.
And, apparently, there are some words that trip people up more than others and that differs from state to state.recently determined the most misspelled word in each country and U.S. state. To do that, the site started with a list of the 350 most misspelled words in the English language, noting the correct spelling and most common misspellings.
The list details the most uniquely popular misspellings in each state, meaning the mistake each state makes at a higher level than others.Globally, “coolly” is the most-misspelled word, more than any other word. “Coolly is the most misspelled word in eight North American countries. As we found to be the case around the world, people are blindsided by that second “l” and prefer to go with the incorrect “cooly.” But cool is an adjective; to make it an adverb, one should coolly add -ly,” the site noted.
“Foreign” and “promise” are each misspelled at a higher than average rate in three U.S. states, more than any other word.
