With the release of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has reached the end of a 22-movie storyline cycle.
Avengers: Endgame is the most-anticipated film of 2019 and it can’t be discussed without talking about money.
All of it comes down to the supersized superhero super team that is the Avengers. This squad is the money bag that all the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe exists upon. Time.com reports that 2012’s Avengers grossed $1,518,812,988 worldwide. The sequels went ka-ching too, including 2015’s Age of Ultron’s take of $1,405,403,694 and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War’s epic $2,048,359,754.
MCU, which began in 2008 when Robert Downey Jr. first put on his Iron Man suit, launched what has come to be known as The Infinity Saga. Played out over three phases and 22 films , the timeline is complicated enough that a sub-industry has sprung up for infographics generated by both studio and fans following the timelines, heroes, villains, hairstyles, fight scenes, you name it. There are TV spinoffs, merchandise galore and even comic-book storylines built around MCU. Imagine, comic books.
Sophie Hunt at Cinesite’s main office in London, England, did respond to queries about staffing and the overall importance of the MCU in both the firm, and other companies’ bottom line. “Each project has its challenges which in turn adds to our knowledge base and pushes our artistic boundaries, we learn and grow with every project we deliver,” said Hunt. “This year five films worked on by the Cinesite group made the Oscar VFX shortlist; Avengers: Infinity War, Mary Poppins Returns, Ant-Man & the Wasp, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom & Black Panther. So it’s true Marvel are raising the benchmark.
