Picking up a bargain or two in duty-free is one of our favourite parts of going on holiday, but snapping up sunscreen at the airport is likely to cost you dear.
Duty-free prices are VAT exempt meaning you can save up to 20% on make-up, sunglasses and designer bags. But price comparisons by research company NimbleFins found SPF can be around £6 more expensive when bought before you board instead of online. For example, Lancaster Sun Beauty Velvet Milk SPF 30 costs £27.85 from Heathrow duty-free, but you can save nearly £6 if you get it ahead of time — a bottle costs only £21.95 online.That said, buying suncream when you arrive at your destination is likely to be even more expensive than duty free so it pays to be organised before you fly.
Designer lipstick is also around £3.50 cheaper before you baord, while snapping up a Kate Spade beach bag at the airport will save you £50.
