When it comes to The Flash 2, director Andy Muschietti says that no one can replace Ezra Miller in a potential sequel for the DCU installment.

If a sequel to The Flash goes forward, director Andy Muschietti claims that no one can replace Ezra Miller in the titular role. After years of being stuck in various stages of development, The Flash is less than a month away from arriving in theaters, with Miller returning as Barry Allen. The movie will shake up the foundations of the DC Universe and visit an alternate universe with characters old and new.

As Miller has been facing numerous legal controversies since 2022, their future has been unclear with DC Studios after The Flash movie. However, if The Flash 2 were to happen, the director of the first The Flash movie can't see anyone but Miller play the Scarlet Speedster in The Flash 2.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT If [a sequel] happens, yes. I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them.

If The Flash movie is a massive success, it would be up to DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery to decide if they have Miller reprise the role in another film. Miller has yet to comment on whether they hope to return as the DC icon after The Flash. But in the end, if DC Studios intends to go in another direction, Miller's future with the franchise may be similar to their fellow Justice League actors and not be brought back.

For now, time will tell if The Flash 2 will actually happen because it will come down to how the first film does commercially and critically. But at the end of the day, even if The Flash is a smashing success, DC Studios may opt to bench the Scarlet Speedster for the time being as they go forward with chapter 1 of the refocused DC Universe. For now, until DC Studios makes any decisions on The Flash 2, fans can catch the first movie in theatres starting on June 16.
