The First New-Gen Ford Mustang Race Car Is This 5.4-Liter Australia-Bound Monster
. It's slated to compete in the Australian Supercars championship, which kicks off with the Bathurst 1000 this weekend, October 9. It's the first of a rash of new competition Mustangs to come, and it's also the first Mustang to enter Supercars' new Gen 3 format.
Though Supercar entrants hew closer to their roadgoing counterparts than they used to, the so-called Gen-3 versions are still beasts, and the new Mustang is no different. Based on the 2024 Mustang GT, the Supercar racer usesand ... that's about the only recognizable component outside of the Mustang-lookin' body shell. Ford Performance says the race car's V-8 is punched out from 5.0 liters of displacement to 5.
The body, including its huge rear wing and front splitter, is significantly longer than stock, at 194.9 inches , and the chassis is a"three-piece spaceframe with removable front and rear sections." A custom double-wishbone suspension at all four corners is supported by Supashock Pedders dampers and Pedders coils, while the brakes are upgraded to AP Racing units measuring 15.6 inches and squeezed by six-piston calipers up front, and 14.0 inches pinched by four-piston calipers in back.
