Emma Raducanu has made history. Not only is she the first British female tennis player to win the US Open for more than 40 years , she is also the first-ever player to win the prestigious tournament after having to play qualifier matches to get through to the Grand Slam.
The 18-year-old, , didn't lose a set during her exhilarating winning final against Canada's Leylah Fernandez on 11 September, 2021, during what was one of the most exciting Ladies tennis finals in recent memory. Raducanu only completed her A-Levels three months ago, and now is the recipient of a $2.5 million paycheque from the New York-based competition, and has woken up to 1.2 million Instagram followers.
