Posted: Sep. 1, 2024 6:51PMA water main break is believed to have caused a sinkhole in Saanich, where emergency crews have blocked off a stretch of Oak Street on Sunday.
Hanna Erickson, who was in the area at the time, says she was told by police on scene that the road between Saanich Road and Short Street, next to the McDonald’s restaurant, would be closed “indefinitely as it’s collapsed.” Erickson says she was there around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, and she took video of the sinkhole and what appears to be water gushing from new cracks in the road.Greg Marsh was also in the area when he noticed Oak Street was “completely shut down.”
