a popular Midtown restaurant celebrating 20 years in business, has not only served up delicious chicken and waffles, but it's also been a site for some of the city's most noted murals.
This week, the restaurant replaced its George Floyd mural, which was painted in July 2020, with"Black Mount Rushmore," a tribute to four Black legends: Marcus Garvey, Carter G. Woodson, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. The mural was created by artist Reginald Adams, who has created artworks on the side of The Breakfast Klub building at Travis and West Alabama for the past decade. Previous murals include former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Garvey was a Jamaican-born activist and founder of the Pan-Africanism movement. Woodson was a historian who earned a doctorate from Harvard University and founded of the Association of the Study of African American Life and History. He is considered to be the"father of Black history." Washington was an educator and the first president of the now Tuskegee University in Alabama.
In its two decades, The Breakfast Klub has received national recognition on"Good Morning America" and in USA Today, Black Enterprise, Esquire and Forbes. The restaurant recently was one of the highest-ranked Black-owned restaurants on Yelp.
