He uses a large round brush like a roller, winding hair around the barrel, then blasts it with a hair dryer and leaves it in place to cool for a few seconds before uncoiling it. To help lock in the shape while he makes his way around the rest of the hair, he wraps each section he's blow-dried up with a roller and leaves it until the end where he lets the whole lot loose.
